The Armoury equals Authentic – proper training from properly trained and qualified coaches. Don’t mistake us for some sterile health club and don’t come here if you seek the mere facade of physical fitness but, if your goal is to get into great shape, and you’ve got the motivation, then you’ve come to the right place. By mixing up your training to include Armoury Boxing and Physical Training classes you’ll cover all of the six S’s for getting a boxer supremely fit (Speed, Stamina, Strength, Suppleness, Skill & pSychology - yes we know we cheated with the last one, but ‘five S’s and a P’ doesn’t sound right now does it!) We’ll teach you how to use your fists to defend and attack and we’ll get you into great condition, no problem, but we’ll also help to build your confidence and get you walking out of the gym with a spring in your step and a smile on your face.

We find that the Armoury attracts individuals, with character, people who are prepared to explore their primal side and find out about themselves. It’s not about knocking lumps out of the other guy but rather it’s about seeing whether you’ve got what it takes when they’re putting the pressure on you. Paradoxically, for an individual sport, the club is very communal and has an easy going camaraderie - just see how many members turn up to support the boxers at a Fight Night or meet at the Armoury to leave in convoy for a township to support one of our pros.
  • Nearly 50% of our members are women; most come for the fitness but an Armoury Fight Night will typically feature several female bouts.
Whilst we call our style of boxing ‘white collar’ the membership is actually very diverse and difficult to label. Everyone has a story, some have fight on their hands – problems at work, the fight with the flab, the combative mother in law – and we say to them “leave your problems at the door, the only place you’ll find sympathy here is in the dictionary”. You don’t come to the Armoury to gossip with your personal trainer, the training does the talking and it’s therapeutic all right! The training develops discipline, focus and control; you train hard, sweat buckets, bond with your coach and gym mates and have a brilliant time. Your performance improves and the weight falls away. You leave the gym feeling energised and confident, a ‘Fighter’, better prepared physically, mentally and emotionally to tackle any challenge.

The Armoury has got all the great kit that you’d expect of a proper boxing club; good old fashioned stuff like leather medicine balls, skipping ropes and punch bags, lots of them. We’ve also got a well equipped weights room with the right kit for functional exercise, such as TRX and Kettlebells. The gym occupies a spacious grand old armoury building with an airy industrial / warehouse feel and stylish decor which is a contemporary take on Victorian pugilistic imagery and classic fight posters. We’ve collected boxing art and memorabilia from around the world and are building an extensive collection of boxing books. Our music doesn’t emulate downtown Chicago or Soweto, rather, we mix old punk with 2 tone, alternate with electronic and hip hop with rap – edgy music that isn’t too smooth and won’t be heard on daytime radio. Our vibe isn’t your typical grungy, peeling take on the urban fight club, its more Officers Mess meets gentleman’s Boxing Academy meets chintzy nightclub. Strange we know, unique probably, but it works.
